Mark Lubbers

Mark is one of Gauge’s fearless leaders. Mark started his career at a small Graphic Design firm right after college before starting Gauge with Daniel. Over the years he has been in many different positions and roles from lead designer to project manager and now to operations director. As our team has grown and adapted, he has had to adapt many times as well. After over 10 years, here we are! Gauge is a really unique place to work and we have a great team, Mark is a big reason for that and we are grateful to have him!

Favorite Concert: Mark went to Jack Johnson concert in college, he opened for Ben Harper and it was Jack’s first concert that wasn’t a small coffee shop, so he was pumped to be there and it made the experience really great. Shortly after that he really started to blow up nationally so it was cool to see him in such a small setting before he got big.


A few words from Mark:

“I have always had a passion for design, technology and the internet; my dream was always to be a lead designer on Nike’s interactive team but my career never took me that path. Thankfully I have been challenged creatively, professionally and personally throughout the history of Gauge. It has been such a rewarding and challenging experience that when I look back I can honestly say I would not have had it any other way. I have found the marriage of design, technology and the internet that I was looking for when I first started studying graphic design. eCommerce sits at the intersection of all 3.  I have learned to enjoy the creativity needed to run a business even more than I enjoyed the creative process of building the structure and layout of a website. When Gauge started Daniel and I did every job (it was just the 2 of us). My favorite responsibilities were page design and project management. I got the opportunity to perform both duties full time throughout the years, but now I focus on making sure the much more talented people on our team have what they need in order to excel in their positions. I really enjoy getting the opportunity to adapt and change my role about every 6 months. It keeps me on my toes and provides a lot of variety.

My key focus now is on creating the optimal working environment for my team which results in the best results and relationships with our clients. I love to look for small improvements in how we operate on a day to day basis. Additionally, tackling big concepts and ideas is one of the things I enjoy the most. We’ve done that in a few practical ways throughout adoption of a fixed pricing model, our leader leader philosophy, and more recently through adopting more agile management philosophies in order to strengthen the core of Gauge. All of these ideas are inspired by great writing. Reading and challenging myself are 2 things that really put gas in my tank and drive me forward.”
